U.S. COAST GUARD CALLS OFF SEARCH |
NEW ORLEANS –U.S. Coast Guard units have ended their two-day search this morning for a Vietnamese shrimper missing from a fishing vessel since Thursday evening in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tommy Ngo, 45, was last seen by the crew of the Lovely Jenny at about 11 p.m. Thursday. Coast Guard assets from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama searched continuously since notification.
An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also transmitted during the search to inform nearby mariners and ask them to keep a sharp lookout. Although the active search was concluded about 10:30 a.m. today, the UMIB continues to be broadcast by Coast Guard Group New Orleans.
Rescue crews searched an area of about 400 square miles around the Lovely Jenny’s location 50 miles south of Morgan City, La.
Units involved in the search were: U.S. Coast Guard cutters Pelican and Razorbill; U.S. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans rescue helicopter crews; and U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile rescue jet crews.
