COAST GUARD MARINE SAFETY OFFICE NEW ORLEANS INVESTIGATES FATAL TOWING VESSEL ACCIDENT |
NEW ORLEANS – Investigators from the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office New Orleans responded to the scene of a fatal accident on the Mississippi River this morning. A deckhand on the towing vessel Mary Scheel was killed when the vessel and its barges were mooring at the Triangle fleet near LaPlace, La. The crewman’s remains were retrieved from the water by other crew members. He was fatally injured when a mooring line parted and struck him, causing him to fall into the Mississippi River. The Coast Guard investigation is on-going.
