COAST GUARD RESCUES KAYAKER IN WEST BAY | |
|
HOUSTON - The Coast Guard rescued a 49-year-old kayaker in West Bay, south of Galveston, Texas, late Wednesday night. A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a call at 8:16 p.m. from the son of the kayaker, who reported his father was in need of assistance. The son reported that his father was disoriented and unable to make it back into shore. The Coast Guard launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston and a rescue boat crew from Station Freeport to assist. The cellular phone company T-Mobile provided the Coast Guard with a GPS location for the kayaker's cell phone. The rescue boat crew arrived on scene and found the kayaker in shallow water. Shortly after that, the rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene, safely hoisted the kayaker, and brought him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The kayaker was reported to be in good condition.
