MEDIA ADVISORY: COAST GUARD, MARINES HOST EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF GUARD, RESERVE EVENT | |
| HOUSTON - Coast Guard Sector Field Office Galveston and Fourth Assault Amphibian Battalion, Marine Corps are hosting Area 2 of the Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Friday at 8 a.m. The event, called SEALIFT 2008, provides an opportunity for military reservist's employers to visit and learn first hand what their reservist do while on duty.
SEALIFT 2008 will feature a search and rescue demonstration, a static helicopter display, tours of Coast Guard cutters and boats, a tour of the Marine training base, weapons static display and simulators, and Amphibious Assault Vehicle static displays and rides. The ESGR is an agency within the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. It was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between reserve and National Guard members and their civilian employers. ESGR also assists in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employees' military commitment. The ESGR is essential to maintaining operational readiness by providing cost-free professional training and consulting services to employers and military commanders, mentoring and promoting community awareness. Today, nearly 50 percent of the nation's total available military manpower is in the reserve components and over 100,000 are currently on active duty.
