COAST GUARD HOSTS COASTAL BEND CLASSIC DRILL MEET

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Coastal Bend Classic Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Drill Competition, sponsored by King High School, will be held at the Coast Guard hangar aboard Naval Air Station Corpus Christi on January 26, 2008.

Sixteen high school JROTC teams from all over South Texas will compete for two spots at the statewide competition.  Scheduled events that the cadets will be graded on include academic testing, personnel inspection, armed and unarmed drill routines, color guard formation, push-ups and curl-ups.

This is the fourth year that the Coastal Bend Drill Meet is being held at NAS Corpus Christi.  Base personnel will act as judges, time keepers, and recorders.

The competition will start at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m. with schools competing at different times in the various events throughout the day.

The drill meet is closed to the public.

Media wanting to cover the competition must contact LTJG Ben Sparacin to be met at the Naval Station Flour Bluff gate at 10:00 a.m. for an escort to the hangar.
