MEDIA INFORMATION DAY:  MEMPHIS COAST GUARD RECEIVES DEFENDER CLASS RESPONSE BOATS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Coast Guard spokespeople are scheduled to be available Friday, September 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. for interviews regarding Sector Lower Mississippi River's receipt of two Defender Class Response Boats.  The specially designed Response Boats will not only provide greater capability to protect the port and inland river waterways from potential terrorist threats, but will increase proficiency and safety of boat crews through standardized training and operations.  

The media is invited for a tour of the Response Boats and ride along.  It is requested that the media arrive no later than 9:30 a.m.
