No School for Whatcom Middle School Only for Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6

School is cancelled for Whatcom Middle School students and staff only on Thursday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 6 due to a fire that occurred in the early morning hours. Whatcom students and staff should not report to school today or tomorrow and please do not come to the Whatcom building.

All other Bellingham schools are operating on time with regular schedules.

"We are deeply saddened by this significant fire and are grateful to our Bellingham Fire Department and responders for their efforts," Superintendent Sherrie Brown said. "I would like for our Whatcom students, families and staff to know that we are committed to getting our Whatcom students resettled and attending class again as soon as possible."

Whatcom families and staff should visit www.bsd501.org or tune into local media during the day on Thursday, Nov. 5.

"We know that Whatcom Middle School will not be able to be occupied in the near future," district spokesperson Tanya Rowe said. "Our Superintendent and administrative team will be meeting this morning to develop a plan. We will share information about the plan as soon as possible."

More information will be posted to the Web site at www.bsd501.org as soon as it is available.
