The Bellingham School District’s Title I Program is creating a District Title I Improvement Ad Hoc Committee to make recommendations for improving reading and math achievement for students who are not yet at standard.

Applications from interested parents/guardians, middle and high school students, and staff are being accepted now through Nov. 4.  Membership is limited to parents, students and staff who participate at a school served by the federal Title I program (Alderwood, Birchwood, Sunnyland and Roosevelt elementary schools) or who have participated in the district’s English Language Learners Program.

The committee will develop recommendations for a plan to increase achievement for student populations in the district that are identified as needing learning support.  The plan is focused on professional development for district administrators and staff.

Interested parents, community members, students and staff may complete the Letter of Interest for Participation at  http://www.bham.wednet.edu/staff/committee.htm and submit it by Nov. 4 to Federal and Special Programs, 1306 Dupont Street, Bellingham, WA  98225, (360) 676-6542. The facilitator will review each application and propose a group to the superintendent that is balanced with representation by diverse geographic regions/neighborhoods, student groups or grade levels, background/experiences relative to the task.
