High school students are encouraged to register now for a new Bellingham Virtual Learning online summer school program that provides instructor-led courses from June 22 through Aug. 7.
All online instructors have valid state certification in their subject areas and present students with a Web-based interactive learning experience. High school students may schedule supervised computer access at Squalicum High School from 9 to 10 a.m. or 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays from June 22 through Aug. 7 or may apply to work entirely off-site.
High school course offerings include credit retrieval in math, social studies and English. In addition, Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) preparation no-credit courses in reading and math will be offered for high school juniors or seniors preparing to retake the WASL.
Opportunities for high school students to earn credit ahead will be offered in health and physical education.
The class fee is $275. Additional fees may apply for some classes. Tuition waivers are available for a set number of students who qualify for free/reduced meals and have a free/reduced meals application on file with the district. Waivers will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To register or for additional information, please click here or call 676-6470, ext. 5063.
Due to a reduction in state funding, the district's summer school program is designed to be self-supporting through tuition and will be offered only at the high school level as outlined in the adopted Budget Savings Plan.
