Dear families, Staff and program update: As the district implements their budget savings reduction plan, I know that you may have many questions about our program for next year. Although we have had a slight reduction in elective and PE staff, I want to assure you that we will be offering the same core content classes and the same range of electives that we have been able to offer in the past: Spanish, Art, Orchestra, Band, Music of the World, and Drama (or Media/Art) as well as PE for every student. Our PTSA is also investigating the establishment of a “before school” French class, which would be a welcome addition to our other “before school” offerings such as Morning Choir. At Fairhaven, four of our non-continuing teachers have been displaced. I know that our district is doing everything possible to insure that these folks will be assigned to other positions in the district as jobs open. We are saddened to lose these teachers, but we know students elsewhere will benefit from their expertise and passion for teaching. Thanks for your good parenting—it makes a difference!
PTSA News: 6th & 7th Grade Parents - we still need volunteers to help serve refreshments and clean up at the ceremony, and to serve refreshments and clean up at the dance. Contact Gennie Clawson (bgclawsons@msn.com) or Kerri Sloan (kerriandpaul@comcast.net). Many thanks to Patti Fairbanks who will be taking care of the decorations & dance and Tracy Diehl & Michelle Barenchi for heading up refreshments. Challenge Run: The Middle School Challenge Run will be held on Saturday June 13th. The challenge is between all 4 Middle Schools and the 'winning' school is that which registers the most participants. Fairhaven has won the past two years. Let's do it again! Pick up a purple registration form in the office or PTSA room. The first 400 registrants (from all schools) receive half- off waterslide passes. All attending will have a great time and be eligible for many terrific prizes. Chalk Art Festival is coming up on Tuesday May 26, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm. Registration forms are available in the main office. There will be no registration fee this year. Bring your imagination and your group of three chalk artists! Thank you to 8th grader Nick Smith, his sister Lauren, and his mom, Stephanie Walters, for serving dinner this month at the Lighthouse Mission!
