Lost and Found Items:
Our front hallway overflows with pants, shoes, socks, coats, sweaters, jackets, and other valuable items.... please come and claim all lost items before the December break. ALL lost and found items will be donated to charity on December 19.

Math Competition: It's math season at Fairhaven and teams will be forming in January.  We will be participating in both the county and the state Math Championships competitions.  Please plan to come to an informational meeting immediately after school on Thursday January 8th in Room 309.  Complete information about practice sessions, competition dates, and fees will be distributed at this meeting.
Practice sessions will be in the evening this year--Tuesday evenings from 6:30 until 8:00.  Coaching staff will include Sehome students who were top-level competitors during their years at Fairhaven. So, if you've been on a math team before or if you've always wanted to be on one, we're looking forward to seeing you.

North Continental Divide would like to thank all the parent volunteers who helped chaperone the team to see Romeo and Juliet:  Kerri Sloan, Gennie Clawson, Gail Knops, Tracy Anderson, Sharon Colander, Laurie Brown, and Bob Schneider.

National Geographic Bee Coming Soon!  All Fairhaven students will be participating in their classroom level bee in their Social Studies classes within the next few weeks.  Each Social Studies class will send two students to participate in the school wide event, which will take place after the Winter Break on January 8, 2009. Parents are welcome to attend.  Please encourage your student to check out an atlas, encyclopedia or Google to study some of their favorite places around the US and around the world.  Many questions pertain to capital cities, geographic regions, agriculture, lakes and rivers.  It can be fun to discover new places around the world that you have never been to!  Here are some sample questions from last year's National Bee to try your Geographic skills and knowledge.  Go look up the answers! 
1)    Gettysburg National Military Park is located in which state - Tennessee or Pennsylvania?
2)    Cape May, which has a ferry to Delaware and is one of the oldest beach resorts in the country, is located in which state - Rhode Island or New Jersey?
3)    Known for its production of alpaca wool, Arequipa [ah-re-KEE-pah] is a major commercial and tourist center in what country just south of Ecuador?
4)    Which country, which includes Zanzibar Island, has both Swahili and English as official languages?
5)    To sample a dish of traditional paella [pie-AY-ya] and see flamenco dancers in Madrid, you would travel to which European country?
The National Geographic has a very informative web site and a daily quiz and challenge to try your skills.
