Lost and Found Items: Math Competition: It's math season at Fairhaven and teams will be forming in January. We will be participating in both the county and the state Math Championships competitions. Please plan to come to an informational meeting immediately after school on Thursday January 8th in Room 309. Complete information about practice sessions, competition dates, and fees will be distributed at this meeting. North Continental Divide would like to thank all the parent volunteers who helped chaperone the team to see Romeo and Juliet: Kerri Sloan, Gennie Clawson, Gail Knops, Tracy Anderson, Sharon Colander, Laurie Brown, and Bob Schneider. National Geographic Bee Coming Soon! All Fairhaven students will be participating in their classroom level bee in their Social Studies classes within the next few weeks. Each Social Studies class will send two students to participate in the school wide event, which will take place after the Winter Break on January 8, 2009. Parents are welcome to attend. Please encourage your student to check out an atlas, encyclopedia or Google to study some of their favorite places around the US and around the world. Many questions pertain to capital cities, geographic regions, agriculture, lakes and rivers. It can be fun to discover new places around the world that you have never been to! Here are some sample questions from last year's National Bee to try your Geographic skills and knowledge. Go look up the answers!

Community News: (submitted by Karl Ritter) Project Santa Claus Project Santa Claus is a holiday program sponsored by The Whatcom County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with local firefighters, police, search and rescue and community volunteers. They distribute applications to all school districts in Whatcom County. The past two years The Salvation Army has agreed to do intake and screening for Bellingham School District families. This program is completely separate from The Salvation Army Holiday Giving Program. The deadline for application to Project Santa Claus continues until all our 50 allotted applications are used. On Friday, November 14th we had 34 remaining applications. To apply, the family needs to call The Salvation Army and ask for Cathy Dearman to schedule an appointment. Her phone number is 733-1410 extension 220. If she is unavailable, they will need to leave a voice mail stating that they have been referred to Project Santa Claus by The Bellingham School District (referring staff member) and then leave their name, phone number and a good time to be reached. Someone will contact them and schedule an appointment time. PTSA News: FMS has pledged to serve dinner at the LIGHTHOUSE MISSION every third Thursday of the month. Please consider volunteering with your FMS student. We are looking for servers from Feb. - May. Contact Jennifer Dolese at dolesejt@msn.com. Students who signed up to help with SALMON HABITAT ENHANCEMENT will be out Friday, rain or shine! They are: Tyler Brunson, Shannon Davies, Annie Dufner, Sam Humphreys and Maddie Humphreys. A huge THANK YOU to all of you! Fairhaven Middle School 110 Park Ridge Road Bellingham, WA 98225-7999 (360) 676-6450 Feedback? |
