Today Happy Valley staff and students practiced a "Security Alert Lockdown."  This means that all exterior doors and doors to classrooms are locked, staff and students become "invisible," and communication is limited to emergency officials and District personnel.  Events that create a Security Alert Lockdown are considered an immediate threat towards the school and are extremely rare.

Another form of lockdown that we practice is referred to as a "Hold Lockdown."  This procedure includes children and staff staying in classrooms, locking all external doors and classroom doors, and communication being limited to emergency personnel and District staff.  The major difference with the Hold Lockdown is that we do not become "invisible" and classroom instruction continues.  The Hold Lockdown is typically initiated by the police department when criminal activity has occurred near a school, but not against the school. 

Important reminders for parents in the event that a Lockdown takes place:

Do not call the school.  We will not answer calls, and communication will be limited to emergency and District personnel.
