All-Day Kindergarten
Kindergarten is presently a half-day, every day program offered at all 14 elementary schools. All-day kindergarten may be offered at a few schools beginning this fall.
Currently, an All-Day Kindergarten Task Force is developing a recommendation and plan to offer all-day kindergarten beginning in a few schools this fall. All-day kindergarten may be offered at all district schools within the next few years. A limited amount of state funding may be available and schools must meet specific criteria to receive this funding to offer all-day kindergarten. The schools that will offer all-day kindergarten this fall have not yet been determined. Based on available funding, the district will make this decision as early as possible. To receive the latest information about all-day kindergarten options, please sign up for e-news registration at http://www.bham.wednet.edu/ or visit our Web site.
What We Teach
Washington State has identified what children should know and be able to do at each grade level. Our kindergarten program is designed to support all students in meeting and exceeding these grade-level standards in reading, writing, communication, math, science arts and health/physical education. Teachers work to personalize instruction for students at all learning levels, including those who already exceed standards as well as those needing additional support. Our school district is committed to preparing all students for college, career and citizenship. Although that preparation may seem distant for families of young children, we know that our high quality, engaging learning experiences in early childhood ensures students will have essential skills for future success.
