The Friends of the Bellingham Public Library and Village Books will honor 10 elementary school students from the Bellingham School District acknowledging their efforts in learning to read.
The Maude Heyes Fischer award recognizes hard-working students in the federally-funded Title I reading program. Each Title I reading teacher is asked to choose students who have shown exceptional effort in learning to read. Encouraging students to use their public library, each awardee is required to have a library card and be in good standing with the library. The students will be honored at a ceremony on Nov. 17 at the library during National Children's Book Week and will receive a certificate of recognition as well as a $30 gift certificate from Village Books.
This is the 19th year of recognizing students in the Title I reading program.
