Maintenance and monitoring continues along Coastal Alabama
BP’s commitment to the Gulf Coast continues beyond the completion of Operation Deep Clean. BP has opened Gulf Coast Restoration Organization offices across the Gulf Coast. Our commitment moving forward is to complete the response and support the restoration of the Gulf Coast environment and economy.
As part of ongoing maintenance and monitoring, BP will have specially-trained reconnaissance teams patrolling the shoreline looking for any signs of submerged residue balls, and if found, locally-based response teams and equipment will be deployed to clean the area.
What is maintenance and monitoring?
Monitoring – Regular visual site inspections by monitoring teams of shoreline areas to observe for re-oiling deemed to be MC252. Responders will investigate reports of suspected MC252 oiling and will schedule cleaning where necessary and appropriate.
Maintenance – Clean-up operations based on needs identified by the monitoring program. Maintenance consists of the following response actions:
- Regularly scheduled treatment operations outlined in the Shoreline Treatment Recommendation-Maintenance along shorelines where chronic MC252 re-oiling is expected; and
- Specially trained reconnaissance teams deployed in response to occasional MC252 oiling events (i.e. deposits by storm or wave action).
What should people do if they spot oil?
