Coast Guard Band Hosts Musical Shakespeare

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The United States Coast Guard Band and New London’s Flock Theatre are collaborating to present a free, public concert of music inspired by William Shakespeare, March 28 at 2 p.m. in Leamy Hall at the Coast Guard Academy.

The matinee includes a sampling of Shakespeare’s best-known masterpieces. “Othello,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “Hamlet,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Henry V” all come to life through the music of Verdi, Gounod, Alfred Reed, Felix Mendelssohn and film composer Patrick Doyle.

Flock Theatre LogoThe professional, not-for-profit Flock Theatre began on the streets of Boston in the late 1980s and made its way to New London in 1994. Since then, the Flock Theatre Players have appeared frequently at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center and the Connecticut College Arboretum. The group is dedicated to entertaining and educating any community into which they are invited through unique and original productions and collaborations.
