The U.S.Coast Guard Cutter Alert (WMEC-630) from Astoria, Ore., will be available for public tours Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coast Guard base at Pier 36.

This 210-foot medium endurance cutter's primary mission is law enforcement, search and rescue and fishery patrols.  Since 9/11 the cutter has conducted more than 50 boardings, 154 helicopter evolutions and has made some exciting port calls.  Last December, the crew rescued two fishermen from a sinking fishing vessel in bad weather.

The public needs to call the Officer of the Day to arrange for access to the base to visit the cutter at 206-217-6263 or 206-217-6264.
