The Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast (WMEC-623) from Warrenton, Ore., accompanied by a helicopter from Coast Guard Station San Franciso, recovered more than two tons of marijuana on Jan.26.
While on patrol in international waters off the Mexican coast, the Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted a 30-ft. go-fast boat with three persons on board and suspected narcotics on the deck.
During the pursuit, the suspects began throwing the bales of marijuana overboard. The crew from the Steadfast and the helo eventually recovered 562 bales of narcotics, after a seven-hour pursuit.
The 30-ft vessel was last seen heading toward Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
