Two rescued from cave at Cannon Beach, Ore.

ASTORIA, Ore. —The Coast Guard assisted Cannon Beach, Ore., authorities with the rescue of two people from a cave at Cannon Beach Saturday.

Coast Group/Air Station Astoria recieved a request for assistance from Cannon Beach authorities when a 15-year-old boy and a 19-year old man became trapped in a cave approximately 20-feet above the beach at Haystack Rock after the 15-year-old suffered a broken ankle.  A member of the Cannon Beach High Angle Rescue Team was able to climb into the cave to retrieve the pair and an MH-60 helicopter crew from Group/Air Station Astoria flew them to waiting emergency service crews for transfer to Columbia Memorial Hospital.
