Coast Guard assists vessel taking on water near Brookings

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard responded to an approximately 50-foot recreational vessel taking on water offshore of Brookings, Ore., 2:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Two 47-foot motor lifeboat crews from Coast Guard Station Chetco River, Ore., assisted in dewatering the recreational vessel Monitor before it was towed safely back to Brookings.

The flooding reportedly occurred as a result of a damaged seal where the propeller shafts pass through the hull of the vessel.
