Coast Guard recovers two from Newport vessel in distress

CORRECTION

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard, working with local authorities, responded to a 19-foot recreational vessel lost in the fog possibly in distress with two people on board in Newport, Ore., at approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A Coast Guard beach rescue crew from Station Yaquina Bay, Ore., and fire rescue personnel from the Newport, Ore., fire department located and recovered one unresponsive person from the surf line shortly after arriving on scene.

The second crewman was located in the same vicinity by the Coast Guard beach rescue crew and fire rescue personnel and was also found to be unresponsive after being recovered.

Both crewmen were transferred to Samaritan Pacific Community Hospital in Newport and their condition is unknown at this time.

Names are not being released by the Coast Guard pending notification of the next of kin.
