Coast Guard rescues boogieboarders from Devil's Punchbowl cliff |
|
| SEATTLE - The Coast Guard rescued four boogieboarders from a cliff near Newport, Ore., Saturday. Coast Guard Air Facility North Bend, Ore., received a report of two male and two female boogieboarders trapped on a cliff near Devil's Punchbowl State Park. Eighteen foot seas and 15 knot winds made it dangerous for the boogieboarders to paddle to shore so an HH-65 helicopter crew from Air Facility North Bend was dispatched to rescue the four from the cliff. The men and women, all in their 20's, wound up on the cliff after being pulled out to sea by a riptide that eventually carried them there. The four were taken by the helicopter crew to shore where Coast Guard members from Station Depoe Bay drove them to their vehicle. No injuries were reported. |
