ALASKA RANGER RESCUERS TO RECEIVE MEDALS

KODIAK, Alaska - Coast Guard members involved with the Fishing Vessel (F/V) Alaska Ranger rescue will receive awards and medals Thursday, May 15th, during ceremonies at the Coast Guard base here.

Forty-two people were rescued by the Coast Guard and the vessel Alaska Warrior the night of the sinking.  Weather during the rescue included 30-foot seas, wind chill temperatures as low as 24 degrees below zero, snow squalls and at times, zero visibility.

The Alaska Ranger was a 192-foot catcher/processor based out of Seattle. The vessel sank approximately 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor March 23, 2008.

Interviews with Rear Adm. Brooks and rescue crews will be available.
