Are you ready? We have more recognition today for our fellow Coasties!
Petty Officer 1st Class Todd Nussbaumer, an Operations Specialist serving in the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command (ISC) Port Services Branch in Seattle was selected as ISC Seattle's Enlisted Person of the Quarter for the Second Quarter (January to March) of Fiscal Year 2008. Coasties who achieve this high honor are chosen by exemplifying the finest traditions of military customs and courtesy's and the Coast Guard's core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty.
While serving in the ISC Port Services Branch, Nussbaumer consistently demonstrated the highest caliber of leadership toward the many non-rates and junior petty officers assigned to his section, earning him the highest respect of his juniors, peers, and seniors alike. Nussbaumer's vast knowledge of law enforcement (to encompass ISC Seattle rules and policies) ensured members were properly trained to fulfill the duties to which they were tasked. To accommodate the large number of regular ship movements, he expertly manned and trained his staff, creating a safe environment. Many times Nussbaumer's duties required him to work after-hours, early mornings, late nights and weekends to accomplish the many missions of the branch.
Occasionally, Nussbaumer had to coordinate port services for U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and foreign vessels which tied up at locations other than ISC. One of Nussbaumer's most important roles was the direct supervision of the Administrative and Transient (A&T) personnel temporarily assigned to ISC. Nussbaumer always treated A&T personnel with a high level of respect and courtesy and had a positive impact on their development. As the ISC Master-at-Arms (MAA), Nussbaumer often received negative feedback from tenant command personnel due to issues such as parking tickets, booting of vehicles and scraping of base access stickers. Nussbaumer always handled these issues in a diplomatic and professional manner. On a daily basis he ensured morning colors were consistently performed in a flawless manner. Nussbaumer conducted training on all the different flags and pennants that are often required to be displayed.
Nussbaumer diligently worked to promote a positive culture of trust and teamwork within the Port Services Branch, creating an environment of camaraderie and respect. The regular morale events he coordinated only strengthened this strong culture within the branch. To encourage a healthy lifestyle, Nussbaumer held physical fitness and weight training work-outs three times per week. Nussbaumer daily displayed genuine care and concern for those under your leadership and worked to ensure their needs were met. As a team player, he regularly partnered with other ISC Divisions to ensure the missions of the unit were accomplished.
I do not know about you, but these accomplishments definitely deserve to be bragged about a little bit. Great job OS1! Keep up the great work!
