SEATTLE - The U.S. Coast Guard and the Washington State Department of Ecology responded to a report of an oil sheen near Edmonds, Wash., today.
The sheen, which covered approximately 1,000 feet by 200 feet, was reported at 6:30 a.m. near the Edmonds Ferry Terminal.
The Coast Guard and the Department of Ecology commenced an investigation from the air, water and land to identify the source of the spill.
The amount and type of oil product has not been determined, but initially appeared to be a heavy or thick oil due to presence of marine vegetation. The oil is not recoverable, but is dissipating.
State and federal investigators have not observed any oiled wildlife or shoreline contamination.
