History

Built in 1956, the Plant had an original capacity to treat 38 million gallons of wastewater per day. Expansions over the years have enabled the Plant to continue serving the growing South Bay, and today the Plant has a design capacity of 167 million gallons of wastewater per day. In 1964, the Plant added a secondary treatment process to its primary treatment system and in 1979 the Plant upgraded its wastewater treatment process to include an advanced, tertiary system. The Plant's history is closely tied to the area's economic growth as has provided critical infrastructure to support new business and residential development since it was first constructed. View a brief excerpt of the Plant's history, taken from a complete history of the Plant currently being prepared.
