Good Morning,
The HSC closed yesterday, 09/12/07 at 12:30 p.m. due to rough seas caused by tropical storm Humberto. Overnight, the storm intensified and reached hurricane force winds at about 1:00 a.m on 9/13/07. The storm moved eastward up the Texas coast and made landfall at about 2:00 a.m. near High Island.
The channel still remains closed as of 7:00 this morning. I spoke with the pilot's dispatcher who stated that the channel will remain closed until the pilot boat goes out into the bay after daylight to check conditions. At that time a determination will be made about if and when the channel would be open. Outbound vessels are slated to be boarded first to make room for the inbound ships.
At 07:00 a.m. there are 19 inbound and 18 outbound vessels delayed port wide.
This is a list of PHA vessels affected:
Outbound:
Turning Basin: 1 Balticon line
BCT: 1 HLC
1 MAE
1 S/L
Inbound:
Turning Basin: 1 VW line
1 Layberth
Woodhouse: 1 Gulf Africa
Jacintoport: 1 Seaboard
BCT: 1 Saudi
1 HLC
1 Layberth
Bayport: 1 CMA/CGM
It looks like we've dodged another storm.
