BELLINGHAM - The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has endorsed Western Washington University's Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management program; this endorsement is good for three years.

SHRM's goal is to provide colleges and universities with a resource to track the progress of their human resource curriculum against the skill sets required by employers in the field.

It is their belief that students are best prepared for a career in human resources when content is taught within a business context.

SHRM believes WWU's business focus better prepares students to enter the workforce and gives them the opportunity to practice human resources in a variety of sectors such as for-profit, nonprofit, government and private organizations.  WWU is the first university in Washington state and one of only three in the Pacific Northwest to be recognized by SHRM.

"This is a testament to the work of Professor Emeritus Bruce Wonder, who led the HR program at Western for more than 20 years," said Associate Professor of Management Matthew Liao-Troth.  "We have an incredibly strong program that has made a significant impact on HR practice in the state of Washington for decades."
