BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's Department of Music will present a free concert featuring the United States Coast Guard Band at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23 in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) Concert Hall.
One of the nation's premier military bands and the proud representative of the United States Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, the band will perform a program entitled "An American Journey." The program will feature an array of musical selections by American composers, such as John Williams and George Gershwin.
Soloists for the evening include the band's pianist and arranger, Chief Musician Ian Frenkel, presenting his own collection of Gershwin melodies in "Gershwin Remembered." In addition, Joshua Thomas, alto saxophone, will perform Piet Swert's "Dance of Uzume" and Lisa Williamson, soprano, will sing "America, of Thee I Sing."
The performance will serve as a prelude to a series of performances around the Tokyo Metropolitan Region by the U.S. Coast Guard Band, the first premier American military band to perform a concert tour of Japan.
The performance is free and open to the public; tickets are not required. For more information about the U.S. Coast Guard Band visit www.uscg.mil/band.
