BELLINGHAM - The WWU American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Student Chapter will present a workshop entitled "Through the Lens of Choral Artistry" on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 16 of the Performing Arts Center.
The workshop will feature Paul Head, director of Choral Studies at the University of Delaware and chair of its Department of Music. His choirs have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and have received high acclaim for their musical artistry.
Head has studied conducting with Charlene Archibeque, Allen Crowell, Joseph Flummerfelt and Dennis Shrock, and was a member of the Westminster choir where he performed with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition to performing and teaching, Head has co-authored "Case Studies in Music Education" and has served as a presenter and adjudicator at festivals throughout the United States.
During the day-long workshop, Head will present four short choral works as a platform for discussion about musical style and architecture, engaging singers, encouraging vitality, and an ensemble's ability to have a personal investment.
The workshop registration is $40 with a special discount rate of $10 for full-time students. Six Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) clock hours will be available at the door. The credits are free for WMEA members and cost $11 for non-members.
To register for the workshop, or to learn more, please contact Dr. Leslie Guelker-Cone at (360) 650-3772 or Leslie.Guelker-Cone@wwu.edu.
