BELLINGHAM - The 2008 Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival (BEAF) from April 24-26 will showcase electronic music, video and installation art of more than 40 local, regional and international artists, including Dajuin Yao, The Blow, Steve Peters, BLVD, Richard Karpen, Kotoka Suzuki, Celer, Bill Horist, VibeSquaD and Idiot Pilot.
Festival events will include sound-art installations, electroacoustic concert works, experimental electronica, dance music, ambient music, video pieces and live music mixing, as well as several lectures and hands-on vintage synthesizer expo. Renowned sound art scholar Douglas Kahn is slated to deliver two of the lectures.
According to Bruce Hamilton, director of WWU's Electroacoustic Music Studio, the festival will offer something special. "We are excited to present this unique event to the Bellingham community, one with all-ages appeal and a strong educational component," Hamilton said.
Festival venues include the Old Foundry at 100 E. Maple St., The Majestic at 1027 N. Forest St., the American Museum of Radio and Electricity at 1312 Bay St., Mindport Gallery at 210 W. Holly St., the Pickford Cinema at 1416 Cornwall Ave., and on WWU's campus at the Performing Arts Center, Old Main Theater, Viking Union Multipurpose Room and Gallery, Underground Coffeehouse and Fine Arts B Gallery.
A number of local organizations, including WWU's Music Department, are sponsoring the festival.
