BELLINGHAM - Western Washington University's College of Business and Economics (CBE) will host a pair of guest lectures this spring, and both events are open and free to the public.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, in Fraser 4, the CBE's Strategic Management Executive Speaker Series will present Scott Howell, the CEO of Northern Industrial, Inc., a private company founded in 1948 that manufactures equipment for the logging industry.

Howell, a 1977 graduate of WWU, worked in 14 locations for Weyerhaeuser from 1978-1992, including stays on both coasts and in Asia. He left Weyerhaeuser in 1992 in search of a more entrepreneurial environment and managed a pair of start-ups, one domestic and one in South America. He has been with Northern Industrial since 1997, and was the successor to the company's founder as its second CEO. Howell is an advisory board member of WWU's Center for Excellence in Management Education.

At 3 p.m. on Friday, May 2, in Fraser 4, the CBE's Ethics and Social Responsibility Executive Speaker Series will host attorney Marcella Fleming-Reed of the MFR Law Group. Fleming-Reed's practice focuses on human resources consulting - she is also the former director of Employee Relations for Boeing - mediation of employment disputes, investigations, and providing employment and labor-law advice to small and large employers. Fleming-Reed is a former advisory board member of WWU's Center for Excellence in Management Education.

For more information on either event, contact CBE Program Coordinator Peggy Warner at (360) 650-2617, or peggy.warner@wwu.edu.
