The Public Works Department wishes to inform the public that the following roads will have traffic limitations during the week of September 7-10, 2010 to accommodate construction and repair.
Ohio/King/State Streets
Ram Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue work on safety improvements along Ohio Street between State and King Streets. Work to be performed this week will include billboard removal, storm drainage installation, and electrical work for the James Street signal. Flaggers will direct traffic through single lane closures in the construction zone as needed. Alternative routes are recommended. Forest Street
Forest Street, at the Ellis Street intersection, will be reduced to one lane while Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, installs a crosswalk. Flaggers will direct traffic through single lane closures in the construction zone as needed. Flynn Street
HB Hansen Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue stormwater improvements along Flynn Street from Electric to Lakeside Avenues. Work this week will include grading of the new shoulder material. Flaggers will direct traffic through lane closures in the construction zone as needed. Chuckanut Drive
Traffic is reduced to a single lane at Inspiration Point, near milepost 18 on SR 11, while Award Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, reconstructs the scenic overlook. A temporary signal will alternate traffic through the work zone for the next two months. Drivers are requested to use caution and avoid the area if possible. Britton Road
HB Hansen Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will begin improvements to retrofit the stormwater detention pond on Britton Road just north of Northshore Drive. Work this week will include mobilizing to the site and draining the existing pond. Traffic impacts are expected to be intermittent and flaggers will be available when necessary. 12th Street
RAM Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues work along 12th Street from McKenzie Avenue south to the bridge over Padden Creek. Work this week continues installation of new sanitary sewer main. Crews will also be on Cowgill testing the new water main. Westbound traffic on McKenzie Avenue may be delayed during portions of this work. Flaggers will direct traffic through the construction zones. Bill McDonald Parkway and 25th Street
Traffic will be limited to one lane on Bill McDonald Parkway as crews install the new traffic signal heads on the poles at this intersection. Flaggers will direct traffic through intermittent lane closures through the intersection. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and avoid the area if possible. Oceanside Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, is installing the new traffic signal improving safety for pedestrians, motorists, bicyclists, and transit. The signal is expected to be in operation before students begin moving into WWU dorms September 17. Northwest Avenue
Interwest Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue landscape restoration work. Expect intermittent delays as crews install topsoil and sod. Flaggers will direct traffic through the construction zone as needed. The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this information as a public service. It is based on currently available information.
