Events, classes and more featured in Fall Leisure Guide, coming Sept. 5

Posted: August 26, 2010 9:16:30 AM PDT

Summer vacation is winding down and school is just around the corner, but fall offers plenty of fun in Bellingham.

Bellingham Parks & Recreation will publish the quarterly Fall Leisure Guide on Sunday, Sept. 5, with a full spectrum of program offerings.  Annual local favorites like adult volleyball and basketball leagues, the "Boo! at Bloedel" children's Halloween carnival and the "Children's Shop" holiday craft bazaar will continue to be offered, despite recent City budget reductions.  Bellingham Parks & Recreation also offers a preschool program, classes and activities for individuals with disabilities, youth and teen programs, races and fitness programs, just to name a few.

"Our goal throughout recent budget reductions has been to continue to offer our residents quality, affordable recreation experiences," Richard Henrie, Recreation Manager for Bellingham Parks & Recreation, said.  Henrie reports that program participation has grown over the past year, despite tough economic times.

"We believe that people are choosing more local recreation opportunities and are finding our programs to be affordable and valuable," he said.

The Leisure Guide is published quarterly and contains a listing of all of Bellingham Parks & Recreation's program offerings, as well as a wide variety of local recreational and educational services available through other agencies in Whatcom County.  The Leisure Guide will be an insert in the Bellingham Herald on Sunday, Sept. 5.  Extra copies of the Leisure Guide will be available on the Friday before publication at the Parks Administration Office, Arne Hanna Aquatic Center, Bellingham Public Library and City Hall.  The Leisure Guide is also posted each quarter on the City's website:  http://www.cob.org/services/recreation/activities/leisure-guide.aspx
