Major road construction begins next week providing much-needed safety improvements along Ohio Street from King to State streets, including demolition of a former restaurant.
The intersection of Ohio/King Streets and the southbound I-5 off ramp had been listed as a high accident location since 1998. Currently the King Street leg of the intersection is controlled only with a stop sign. Turning conflicts result in a high number of accidents.
This project will eliminate left turns from King Street to the I-5 ramp, resolving the turning problem. The Ohio and James Street intersection will receive a signal. Adding a westbound right-turn lane onto State Street from Ohio, along with the new signal, will improve traffic flow through the corridor. The Ohio/State Street intersection will also be reconfigured to improve eastbound left-turn movement and permit truck traffic to access I-5.
