It’s all in the trees at Elizabeth Park! Come join the fun 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Elizabeth Park as professional arborists compete in Bellingham’s First Regional Tree Climbing Competition.
This educational event and skills competition is an excellent way for the public to see climbers of all skill levels apply the latest in safety and climbing techniques. This event is hosted by the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture and the City of Bellingham Parks & Recreation Department.
Climbers will participate in five events and are scored for time and technique by judges. The five events are aerial rescue, belayed speed climb, secured footlock, throw line and work climb. The top scoring climbers participate in the Masters' Challenge later the same day. Prizes are awarded to first place participants in each event and the Master Challenge. Top qualifiers are eligible for higher level competitions.
On the ground there will be several booths with information about Bellingham’s wonderful trees, "Ask the Arborist", and activities for kids. Elizabeth Park is located in the Columbia Neighborhood off Broadway at the corner of Walnut and Madison Streets. Parking is limited so please take a bus, ride a bike, carpool or walk.
Sponsors of the event include the International Society of Arboriculture Pacific Northwest Chapter, WesSpur, Sampson, Petzel, Treekeepers and Bellingham Parks & Recreation.
