Bellingham Parks and Recreation invites the community to discuss needs for a playground in Maritime Heritage Park and to review and comment on concept playground plans. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 29, 2010 at the Fireplace Meeting Room located at 625 Halleck Street.
Earlier this year, playground equipment formerly located near the fish hatchery was removed for safety reasons. The playground equipment was old, weathered and did not comply with current safety and accessibility requirements.
Funding in the amount of $21,500 from Real Estate Excise Tax has been made available for initial site analysis and design to determine the need and potential location for a new playground in Maritime Heritage Park. No funding has been set for actual site design and construction. If playground use is supported, Bellingham Parks and Recreation will select a preferred location and proceed with a master plan revision process for Maritime Heritage Park.
