The Big Rock Garden Park Committee invites the public to attend the opening of the 2010 Big Rock Garden Park Sculpture Invitational, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9. The event is free and open to all ages.
Come meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, hear live music provided by the End of the Road String Band, and take a self-guided tour of the gardens. Parking is off site, so please park at Bloedel Donovan Park and ride the free shuttle to Big Rock Garden Park.
This year’s show will focus on honoring the new work of five regional artists represented in the Big Rock Garden Park permanent collection who have helped make the park a wonderfully unique outdoor sculpture sanctuary. Participating artists will include Don Anderson, Shirley Erickson, Ann Morris, Tracy Powell and Pasha Stinson. Opening events also will celebrate many improvements made throughout the gardens and grounds in the past year by the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department and many devoted volunteers.
Big Rock Garden Park is a unique city park showcasing original sculptures in a 2.5 acre garden, including 36 permanent works by distinguished international and local artists. The annual sculpture exhibit runs May through September.
In conjunction with the 2010 Big Rock Garden Park Sculpture Invitational, enjoy additional sculptures by our invited artists on display from Friday, May 7 (Downtown Art Walk), until Saturday, May 29 at the Blue Horse Gallery. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is located at 301 W. Holly Street in downtown Bellingham.
