Today Mayor Dan Pike announced the recipients of the 31st Annual Mayor's Arts Awards. A reception and awards ceremony honoring the awardees is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 at the Mount Baker Walton Theatre. The public is invited to attend.
This year the Mayor is honoring nine Bellingham residents and organizations who have significantly contributed to the arts in our community. Award winners were chosen based on nominations submitted by community members and Bellingham Arts Commissioners.
"The continued enthusiasm for the Mayor's Arts Awards, as well as the new ability for people to nominate artists all year, yielded many excellent nominees," Pike said. "I am proud to be part of a community with a rich array of art and cultural opportunities."
Mayor's Arts Awards will be presented to the following nine recipients:
- Helen Scholtz and the Bellingham Children’s Library - for their role in the continued success of the Library's Annual Children’s Craft Fair.
- Bellingham Festival of Music – for rebuilding itself as an all-volunteer event.
- Bellingham/Whatcom Public Facilities District - for the design and completion of the Cultural Arts District major projects.
- James Hardesty/Green Frog Acoustic Tavern – for his continued support of the Bellingham music scene and opportunities provided for local musicians to perform.
