The Greenest House is a locally produced reality show featuring two Bellingham families competing to see which family can reduce their carbon footprint the most. The families -- the Edisons and the Falcones -- participate in at-home challenges, trivia sessions, and weekend events that help them, as well as the viewing public, understand how to reduce the impacts of their daily actions on our environment. The show focuses in particular on reducing energy use and waste production, conserving water, and reducing miles driven by each family. Along the way the families win prizes donated by local businesses, with the winning family receiving the grand prize: an all-electric MILES ZX40S Advanced Design 4-door sedan.
The real drama and humor lies in the challenges of everyday people trying to go green, including teenagers, toddlers and working moms and dads. Add in broken heating systems, bike competitions after 20 years of not biking, day-to-day struggles with their own bad habits, and much more, and you’ve got a fun and informative reality show with plenty of Northwest style.
The Greenest House, produced locally by Black Dog Productions, is sponsored by the City of Bellingham and features City staff on-camera and providing behind-the-scenes support. Other sponsors include: Northwest Clean Air Agency, Miles Electric Vehicles, Built Green, Everybody Bike, MC Electric Vehicles, Cascade Natural Gas, Whatcom Transportation Authority and Smart Trips. The show's airing on BTV10 follows its earlier debut on KVOS.
