Bellingham's annual celebration of the life and mission of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., held Monday, January 18 at the Bellingham Municipal Courthouse, will air on BTV10 and the City website on the following schedule through mid-February:
10:00 a.m. Monday, Friday, Sunday
2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Saturday
7:00 p.m. Thursday, Sunday
The annual event, held for years in Bellingham City Hall, was moved to the Municipal Court last year to provide room for more people, improve accessibility, and allow the city to broadcast the event live on BTV10.
Bellingham City Council member Terry Bornemann, who helps organize the annual event, said sponsors seek to honor Bellingham's diversity while celebrating the life of Dr. King, who in just 39 years became a human rights icon in this country. A Nobel Peace Prize recipient, he is remembered most for his tireless efforts in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and '60s before an assassin took his life in 1968.
Author Clyde Ford serves as master of ceremonies for the event, which features performances by the Kulshan Chorus and the following speakers:
The event aired live on BTV10 - Comcast Cable channel 10 - and on the City's website.
The event is sponsored by the City of Bellingham, Northwest Washington Central Labor Council, Community Food Co-op, Village Books, Stratton Kehl Publications and Egress Studio.
