A Bellingham woman reported being the victim of a robbery early Sunday evening near Cornwall Park at the Meridian Street entrance. The woman, 18 years old, was walking home from work at about 6:00 p.m when a man approached her walking in the other direction. At first the man walked by, however, as she reached the Park entrance, the suspect grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground.
Officers responded to the assault after a witness from a nearby neighborhood reported hearing a woman scream and saw the two struggling in the street.
The woman told officers that she had been attacked and the suspect ran off into the park with her purse. During the attack, the woman received non-life threatening injuries that did not require medical treatment.
Several officers checked the surrounding area. The suspect was not located but the purse and it’s belongings were recovered.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20’s, he is between 5’ 10"- 6’ tall. He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information concerning this investigation, please call Detective Sue Howell at (360)778-8682.
