Bellingham Police Officers were called to East Ivy and Garden street late Friday night after a caller to 9-1-1 reported hearing two men arguing, a gun shot and a car speeding away.
A Bellingham Police Officer arrived about 3 minutes after receiving the call to find a man believed to be about 40 years old laying near a curb on East Ivy street. The man had an apparent gun shot wound to the chest. Bellingham Fire Department Paramedics arrived however the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's car was located on East Ivy street, the engine was running, the parking brake set and the driver's door was open. A suspect vehicle was seen leaving the area after the shooting. The vehicle is believed to be a dark passenger car and was last seen north bound on Garden street. Police Detectives were called out to investigate the crime scene and to interview potential witnesses.
The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of his family. An autopsy has been scheduled for the first of the week.
