Downtown drug sweep lands 12 in jail

In early October, the Bellingham Police's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) mounted an investigation of drug activity in the Central Business District. This investigation was the result of complaints and concerns from citizens and downtown business owners. 

Based on the complaints, SIU Detectives targeted street level drug dealers in the business district area resulting in the arrest of 9 adults on a variety of drug charges. Those persons arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail so far are: 

Nathan Michael Smith, age 23, delivery of methamphetamine and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.
Jonah Walter Marriott, age 23, delivery of methamphetamine and heroin.
Brian Joseph Gregory Johnson, age 23 delivery of heroin and an outstanding warrant.
Chase David Taylor, age 20, delivery of marijuana.
Danny Raye Dokes, age 50, delivery of crack cocaine.
Brandie Kay Oldham, age 26 delivery of heroin.
Calvin Ralph James, age 23 delivery of prescription medication.
Antini Joseph Saselli, age 21, delivery of crack cocaine.
Desiree Marie Mork, age 27, delivery of crack cocaine, possession of a controlled substance (prescription medication). 

At this time, several other individuals are being sought for drug charges and remain at large.  

This operation also resulted in a search warrant of a private residence in the  2500 block of Racine Street. That warrant was served on 10/24/09, the following persons were arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail: 

Shannon L lane, age 33, delivery and possession of a controlled substance. Jan Szczygielski, age 26, possession of a controlled substance and a Department of Corrections escape warrant.
Ciera J. Page, age 21, two Bellingham Municipal court warrants.
Marke V. Whitehead, age 26, possession of a dangerous weapon (butterfly knife) and obstructing.

At the residence, crack cocaine, heroin, prescription medication, U.S currency and a loaded handgun were also seized.

This effort highlights the value of pairing Bellingham Police resources with the concerns of our citizens and business owners to collectively make Bellingham a safer place to live and work.
