Bellingham Fire Department responded at 0106 this morning to the Whatcom Middle School. The school is a three story structure and was under a lenthy remodel. The first firefighters on the scene could clearly see flames jumping from more that half the structures roof. Firefighters from 3 districts surrounding Bellingham were called into assist Bellingham firefighters with this 2 alarm fire. Workman were seen on the buildings roof as late as 10:30 PM doing some welding.
At this time there have been no reported injuries and the total damage cannot be assessed at this time. It would appear though that no school could be held there today. Also spotty power outages around the area have occured including the Bellingham Police Department.
