Posted: November 03, 2009 12:49:25 PST

The City of Bellingham will host a public service in honor of all veterans of the United States Armed Forces on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Plaza in Bayview Cemetery.  The service begins at 10:45 a.m., with "Taps" at 11:11 a.m.

Members of Boy Scouts of America Troop 4019, Mount Baker Council, will lead the service. The public is invited to attend, as well as participate in a volunteer effort to help locate, map and clean historical memorials for soldiers from the Civil War and beyond. The volunteer effort will take place before the service, from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 11.

For additional information, contact the Bayview Cemetery at 676-6972. Driving directions can be found on the Bayview Cemetery section of the city's website at: http://www.cob.org/services/human/bayview/hours.aspx

Most City of Bellingham services - with the exception of public safety, emergency services and the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center - will be closed on Veterans' Day. For more information about City closures, visit the City calendar at: http://www.cob.org/calendar/holidays.aspx
