Final public input meeting Nov. 12 for Little Squalicum Park Master Plan

Posted: October 29, 2009 09:37:53 PST

The City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department is conducting the third and final public meeting to obtain input on the master planning of Little Squalicum Park. This meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 12, 2009, at the Fireplace Meeting Room (625 Halleck Street, Bellingham, WA).

Little Squalicum Park is located at 640 Marine Drive, Bellingham. The park is situated near Bellingham Technical College in the outer bounds of the Birchwood Neighborhood.

Three public meetings were scheduled for the design and approval of the park master plan.

The focus during the first public meeting was to determine what the public feels are the qualities of the site, current and potential issues the plan should address, desired recreational/educational opportunities, and new park facilities.  A two-hour open field visit was also conducted.

The second public meeting focused on the public’s evaluation and assessment of the plan alternatives.

The purpose of the third and final public meeting is to obtain the public’s evaluation and comments on the final master plan.

Another element of this project is the ongoing design of two separate environmental cleanups within the site (Oeser & Municipal Landfill). Design work for these cleanups are proceeding coincidentally with master plan development. It is the City’s understanding that the agencies overseeing cleanup activities will host their own public meetings through a separate public process.
