The City of Bellingham will host a neighborhood open house Oct. 24 to show project plans, introduce the contractor and obtain community input on access planning for Northwest Avenue/Interstate-5 Pedestrian Improvements and Roundabout. The open house is scheduled 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 24 at Shuksan Middle School Commons, 2717 Alderwood Avenue.
This is the second meeting in a series designed to solicit feedback and answer questions about the project. Continuing growth in northern Bellingham presents challenges, especially related to transportation. The City, in coordination with the Washington Department of Transportation, will provide pedestrian and bicycle facilities on Northwest between McLeod and Bakerview Roads.
"These important improvements will increase safety and mobility for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicle traffic in a rapidly growing area," said Engineering Manager Ravyn Whitewolf. “Neighborhood input on access planning can help us minimize impacts to residents and the traveling public.”
