The Public Works Department wishes to inform the public that the following roads will have traffic limitations during the week of June 29 through July 3, 2009, to accommodate construction.
North Forest Street
Ebenal General Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue excavating to replace the aging water main on N. Forest Street, from Rose Street to York Street. This will require intermittent lane closures in the construction zone. Drivers are advised to use caution and obey flaggers when traveling through the construction site. For more information about this project visit the city's website http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/Forest-Street-Water-Main-and-Resurfacing.aspx or contact Project Engineer Mark Handzlik at mhandzlik@cob.org or 778-7900.
Lincoln Street
Friberg Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will be setting pavement markings next week over sections of the completed sewer trench. For more information about this project please visit the city’s website http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/2008-2009-Sewer-Replacement-Program.aspx or contact Project Manager Freeman Anthony, P.E. at fanthony@cob.org or by phone at 778-7900.
Telegraph Road
Greenbriar Construction is widening the roadway and installing sidewalks on Telegraph Road between James Street and Deemer Road. Drivers should use caution and expect intermittent lane closures in this area. For more information please contact Project Engineer Martin Kjelstad at mkjelstad@cob.org or call 778-7900.
Sunset Drive (SR542)
Ram Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will continue construction on Sunset Drive from Woburn Street to McLeod Road. This week work will include installing back sidewalk drains, patching utility crossings and grinding asphalt joints. Drivers should expect lane closures on Tuesday and Wednesday, and intermittent closures the remainder of the week between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm as large trucks and equipment enter and exit the site and flaggers direct traffic to a single lane. For more information about this project visit the city's website http://www.cob.org/government/departments/pw/projects/Sunset-Drive-Reconstruction-PhaseII.aspx or contact Project Engineer Mark Handzlik at mhandzlik@cob.org or 778-7900.
The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this information as a public service. It is based on currently available information. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of maintenance work including resurfacing, sidewalk construction, water and sewer main work, and utility cuts. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
