National Night Out 2009

Posted: June 1, 2009 12:52:35 PM PDT

Calling all Block Watch Captains, Neighborhood Association Members and neighborhood organizers! Plans are under way for National Night Out on August 4, 2009. The Bellingham Police is encouraging people to host crime prevention events in their neighborhoods!

Last year in Bellingham, there were 27 registered events with almost 600 participants throughout the city. These events included barbeques, ice cream socials, dessert socials and potlucks.

Many of these events teamed up with Bellingham Police, Dispatch personnel and community leaders to promote safe and healthy neighborhoods.

National Night Out believes that by having people in the community come out and celebrate this event it will heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and sends a message to criminals that neighborhoods are not afraid and are taking a stand against crime.

In hard times like we find ourselves in now, it more important than ever to reach out to your community, get to know your neighbors, and fight back against crime.

An expected 37 million people in 15,000 communities across the nation will join forces on August 4th to promote police-community partnerships. Please join us this year in celebrating this amazing event.

For further questions or to notify us of an event, please contact Katrin Dearborn, Crime Prevention Officer, Bellingham Police Department at 360-778-8660 or Email kdearborn@cob.org.
